We invite community representatives to suggest facilities for the transition to green energy

05.02.2023

We invite local communities to take part in the «Civil Society Energy for Resilient Ukraine» project to develop ‘green’ energy communities, which is being implemented by the German cooperative WECHANGE eG (Berlin) in partnership with the NGO ‘SYNERGY Sustainable Development Agency’ (Vinnytsia) and funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. The aim of the project is to promote the development of green energy communities and the use of renewable energy sources in Ukraine.

The project involves organising the ‘RE-ENERGIZE UKRAINE’ case championship — a competition in which the project team plans to bring together committed activists (energy managers, senior energy students, energy engineers, civil society organisations, activists and other interested groups) to find effective ways of using renewable energy sources in communities.

We invite communities to take part in the project and propose a site that is currently a priority for the community to be converted to renewable energy sources, for participants to work on as part of the championship.

For example:

— supplying electricity to the primary school and nursery;

— supplying the clinic with heating or electricity;

— ensuring the autonomous operation of the water pumping station, etc.

The transition of the proposed facility to renewable energy sources must have a positive economic or social impact on the community’s residents.

The organisers expect to receive information from local authorities regarding the actual site and a description of the resources available to the authority (for example, land suitable for the potential installation of wind turbines, solar panels, etc., human resources, and potential support from the local authority’s budget). Based on the information provided, the project team will draw up a case study — a description of the challenge that participants will tackle during the competition.

This is a great opportunity for TG:

— join the social initiative and improve cooperation with environmental activists at regional and national level, involving them in addressing their issues;

— to obtain ready-made solutions for the use of renewable energy sources to meet the community’s needs and select the best option for potential implementation;

— receive support in securing funding and during the implementation of the proposed solution;

— get to know colleagues from other Telegram groups and share experiences;

— to establish communication with German mentors in the field of renewable energy (the project will involve Ukrainian experts with experience in implementing and managing renewable energy projects, as well as representatives of German energy cooperatives).
